Frugal Living - How To Save Money
Published by guildmom | Filed under General
What is frugal living? To us it is a combination of good money management, saving money and debt relief - all toward the goals of debt free living and financial freedom.
Frugal living usually conjures a picture of deprivation. In order to save money you must deprive yourself of the ‘finer’ things of life is what the message appears to be.
NOT TRUE! Frugal living is about living smarter, so that you can afford to live the life that you have only dreamt of living.
Frugal living means smarter money management. Know how much money you have and how much you need to pay your bills. That likely requires you to create a budget so that you know what you can or cannot afford. (There’s more about creating a budget here.) If you need debt relief, start by reviewing your budget and take charge of your money. You will be surprised at the number of ‘money leaks’ in your money management.

Frugal living means smarter spending. It is time to master the art of bargain shopping. Learn how to get the best deal on everything you plan to buy whether that be from garage/yard sales, thrift stores, clearance centers, the buy-sell-exchange online sites such as CraigsList or from the classified ads in your local newspapers. It also means using coupons and rebates in conjunction with sales days to get the absolute best prices when grocery shopping. (You may even stockpile some items when you can get them at unbeatable prices.) It also means holding off on a purchase when the price simply does not fit your budget.
Frugal living means unlocking your creativity. Can you make due with what you have? Can you add an artistic patch to a pair of jeans with a hole in them and make a fashion statement? Can you take a favorite old shirt or sweater and cut it to create ‘new’ cushion covers? It’s a smart money manager who can recognize and seize the opportunities to re-use, re-purpose and re-create to save money.
Frugal living unlocks a world of possibilities. When you adopt the habits of a frugal shopper, you are in full control of your spending. There is nothing quite so empowering as being in full control of your money.
Saving a few dollars here, and investing a few dollars there slowly translates into a joyful life of possibilities.
If you have decided to give frugal living a shot, then it is vital that you manage your money a bit better and master the art of bargain shopping. We’ve got a few more ‘frugal’ ideas to share on this subject so bookmark us and keep coming back.
